history of phillips furniture

You know, Phillips Furniture wasn’t always Phillips Furniture. In fact, back in 1937, we started out as Phillips Mercantile Company, when Clinton Phillips opened the first store at 600 S. 7th Street in St. Louis. From that point on, the name Phillips became synonymous with outstanding products at an exceptional value.

Eventually, in 1976, 39 years after first opening our doors, we changed our name from Phillips Mercantile Company to Phillips Furniture and began buying furniture directly from the manufacturers. Furniture shoppers throughout St. Louis rejoiced.

Then, in 2004, we decided to partner with Ashley Furniture and began converting all of our stores into Ashley Furniture HomeStores. This concept proved to be so popular that we opened four more over the next four years.

In 2009 we realized customers had nowhere to go for the clean lines, bright colors, and special order possibilities they craved without spending an arm and a leg. So, we decided to bring back Phillips Furniture.

Which brings us back to the present. To the new Phillips Furniture. And yes, it is new.

The new Phillips Furniture is all about bringing the newest styles and fashion you see in all those expensive catalogs and making them available for everyone else. It is where your life meets style.
